Just never, ever give up.”

Welcome to DrJoyceCheng.com

Whether you’re a patient navigating a hospital stay, a family member trying to understand what’s happening to someone you love, or a medical trainee looking for guidance on the road ahead — you’re in the right place.

I’m Dr. Joyce Cheng. I practice hospital medicine, teach the next generation of physicians, and believe deeply that knowledge — shared openly and honestly — makes medicine better for everyone.

WHO I AM

About Dr. Joyce Cheng, MD, MPH, MHA, FACP
Board-Certified Internal Medicine Hospitalist · Clinical Assistant Professor · Patient Advocate

I’m a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Hospitalist and Clinical Assistant Professor with a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Master of Health Administration (MHA). I’m also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).

I trained as an International Medical Graduate, which means I know firsthand how challenging and uncertain that path can be. I built this website to be the resource I wish had existed when I was going through it — and to give patients a place to understand the care they’re receiving when they need it most.

WHAT IS A HOSPITALIST?

You may be wondering: what is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a physician who works exclusively inside the hospital. When you’re admitted, we become your primary doctor for the duration of your stay — coordinating your specialists, reviewing your test results, managing your medications, and preparing you to go home safely.

Your regular doctor hasn’t abandoned you. Hospitalists and primary care physicians work as partners — just in different settings. We take care of you in the hospital; they take care of you everywhere else.
